Project overview:
As directed by the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities (D.P.U.) for all natural gas companies, Liberty has identified a potential site for a Targeted Electrification Demonstration Project.
The goal of this demonstration project is to study the feasibility of transitioning specific geographic areas from natural gas to all-electric energy.
How the project works:
- Voluntary participation: Under applicable Massachusetts law, Liberty cannot compel customers to change their heating source. Participation is voluntary.
- Conversion process: Assuming all impacted customers agree to disconnect from the natural gas system and the project goes forward participants would need to replace gas appliances with electric options.
- System retirement: All customers must voluntarily disconnect for the gas lines to be decommissioned.
