Big changes have happened along Fall River’s waterfront, and Liberty is proud to have played a part in making it all possible. The Route 79-Davol Street Corridor project transformed a busy gateway to the city, improving safety, mobility, and connections to the Taunton Riverfront. This project is expected to impact the community by generating new tax revenues for economic growth, creating new opportunities for unlocking housing for residents and providing a space for visitors to enjoy the city’s personality.
Behind the scenes, Liberty spent four years working alongside Massachusetts state agencies, contractors, and other utility partners to ensure critical storm drains and sewer systems kept pace with the massive reconstruction effort. Our crews relocated more than 6,000 feet of natural gas main and service lines to make space for critical infrastructure upgrades that will benefit the community for years to come, adjusted gas pipeline throughout the corridor, and responded whenever unexpected challenges arose during construction. A significant portion of Liberty work involved relocating a major gas main pipeline parallel to the river that helps deliver service from Fall River to Somerset and Swansea.
As part of this collaborative effort, the project allowed the city to create better drainage in the area, which means more days of downtown enjoyment for residents and less aggravation for business owners. Liberty used the opportunity to upgrade some of our pipes to more reliable, durable materials, strengthening the system so downtown businesses and restaurants can operate and residents stay warm for years to come. By working closely with state agencies, contractors, and other project teams, we transformed the corridor, improving the way we all live, work, and travel through downtown.
While much of this work was underground, its impact resonates throughout the region. We are proud to support a project that is reshaping the waterfront, improving gas infrastructure reliability, and creating a foundation for future growth – long after our crews leave the site.
